Need More Baseball?
Looking to check out some more great baseball content? Here are some of our favorite sites and creators. This list will be updated regularly, so please feel free to send suggestions along via our contact page!
Websites and Resources
As possibly the best site on the Internet for a baseball fan, FanGraphs provides both a massive sortable database of player statistics and an excellent array of commentary and analysis by some of the game’s best writers. In addition, they make great podcasts (see below), do in-depth prospect rankings, publish community research, and post job openings for those looking to work in the game. They are the go-to resource for the analytical fan.
Baseball Reference is likely the largest and most in-depth repository of baseball statistics in the world, with both minor and major league stats for just about every player who has ever played the game going back to the 1800s. Not only that, but they also feature in-depth box scores, historical standings, team records, award voting results, and much, much more. An excellent source for anyone doing research on the game.
YouTube
Witty, informative, and entertaining videos that cover both history of baseball (e.g. the Yankees’ history of great center fielders) and more modern topics (like whether or not Bryce Harper is overrated). They are well-researched, well-edited, well-written, and always a treat to watch.
Jon Bois (SB Nation)
Ok, so not all of his content is about baseball, but if you have not seen his work you are truly missing out, as he is one of the best content creators in all of sports right now. His recent series on the history of the Seattle Mariners with Alex Rubenstein is absolutely a must watch for any baseball fan, and his other series offer something for just about everyone. For those into crazy stats, there’s Dorktown and Chart Party. For those into crazy stories, Pretty Good might be pretty good for you. If you like wacky science fiction, there’s 17776 (this one is mostly about football, but I have to include it here because its that good). Even if you’re really into athletes named Bob, Jon has you covered. Just please, do yourself a favor and go watch some of his work, you won’t regret it.
Podcasts
Effectively Wild: A FanGraphs Baseball Podcast
Hosted by Ben Lindbergh (The Ringer), Meg Rowley (FanGraphs), and Sam Miller (ESPN), Effectively Wild is in a league of its own in terms of baseball podcasts. It provides a great mix of commentary and analysis about the game while also featuring informative interviews, interesting history lessons, and a lot of fun topics in between. It’s basically the spirit of FanGraphs wrapped up in an hour-long package, and it is a podcast that all baseball fans can appreciate.
Brought to you by the boys of Cespedes Family BBQ (Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman), this new podcast from The Ringer is everything you would expect from them. It is pure, unadulterated baseball fun with special guests in almost every episode. They always make great content, and I highly recommend giving them a listen.
